getting a new name. that means more rain, more flash flooding for the gulf coast. >>> hurricane leslie is heading straight for bermuda, forecast to make landfall this weekend as a category 2 storm. leslie is going to kick up high waves, as high as eight feet, along the east coast. but it's not expected to come ashore in the u.s. >> that's good news. no landfall here in the u.s. we'll take that. >>> in other news this morning, arizona is one step closer to implementing the most controversial part of its new immigration law. a federal judge refused to block the so-called show me your papers provision. that requires police officers to ask about the immigration status of people who are stopped for other suspected crimes. civil rights groups, though, says that provision essentially amounts to racial profiling. >>> hundreds of people gathered at a mississippi church to celebrate the life of lucimarian roberts, the mother of robin roberts. robin said, thank you for remembering my mother. diane sawyer and charlie gibson were among those to pay their respects. mrs. roberts was the first african

with that hurricane leslie. leslie is now moving at the speed of 2 kilometers per hour, really snail pace. and that means it's going to be lingering here for quite awhile before it makes the closest approach to bermuda. so storm swells and rip currents at the dangerous level will continue into early next week. we'll keep a very close eye on this system. the wind gusts are already packing up to 146 kilometers per hour. oklahoma city, 37 degrees here in the americas, but cold front will be sweeping in so dropping those temperatures down. especially in denver. by tomorrow, it's going to be a dramatic, significant drop. plummeting about 10 degrees. so about low 20s is what you'll be seeing. drastic temperature changes are difficult for our bodies to cope with. so do be careful with that. but houston, i can't really say the same thing for you. you may see those temperatures rising to about 40 degrees into your weekend. all right. taking a look at what's going to be happening here in the european continent, things are finally going to be tapering off here in italy and in the balkans regions. ou

, and leslie sanchez of "you've come a long way maybe." i just got back from charlotte sleep-deprived, but here we are. you guys were both in charlotte, what's the major take-away point from that whole story i just retold? >> well, i love that retelling it. it's true, it was a tale of two conventions, both of which were about barack obama. that was so stunning. the difference between the two is that you had this hugely sort of negative message about obama, which was the takeaway from tampa because the convention wasn't about mitt romney, he was an afterthought. it was obama is the bad guy, get him out of there. then you have the charlotte convention which was, we love this guy, this is our guy. and really a focused tight message of people who really liked the president, love the president but then when he came on he redirected it back to the supporters saying, i need you to be invested in this. this was your election in 2008. be invested. you know what? it wasn't just because they heard mary j.blige, the audience was invested in what he was doing. >> real love. >> i'm sorry i stepped on that li

the peak week of the hurricane season. we have tropical storm leslie. unfortunately this trough heading up to the coastline, off the coast i should say, is going to miss leslie. the storm is going to sit and linger off the eastern seaboard the next week. near bermuda next weekend. it will send large waves and rip currents, probably dangerous beach weather today through the next couple of days on the eastern sea board. be careful, swim near lifeguards, dodge those afternoon storms because of that humidity that will pop up this afternoon. that's a look at your national forecast. now the weather outside your window. we'll continue to watch a chance of showers and storms many areas of east coast including miami, d.c., baltimore, philadelphia. pretty much all the way up the coastline. we are dry in the middle of the country. hot, austin 99. >>> looks leek what's left of isaac, that moisture, going to bring rain to the east for the next couple of days. >> it's going to be a wet labor day, we didn't want that. >> not all day. >>> ben hinsy's ready putting bain under the microphone. and the breakf

soak myself in. >> i hate when that happens. >> good morning, everyone. we have leslie to talk about which should become a pretty good-sized hurricane in the days ahead and also just tropical humidity throughout the eastern half of the country. yesterday we needed umbrellas in many areas of the carolinas down through georgia and virginia. we're going to do it again today and we'll also include areas in the mid-atlantic. a little front trying to stall itself out here. some showers right around kansas city and also thunderstorms this morning going through southern portions of alabama. looks like it should miss areas around louisiana and mississippi. if you're heading out to baltimore to redding to philadelphia, especially here in central new jersey, some really heavy downpours and those are trying to drift up here toward long island. so areas around new york city k during your morning come mute, you may deal with some heavy downpour. then we're dealing with leslie. it is still a tropical storm but it has strengthened a little bit. looks like possibly a category 2 hurricane by saturday.

of the mid-atlantic but could become a dangerous hurricane later today and then we have leslie. this is the one we've been tracking over the last couple of days south of bermuda. this is the one we'll have to watch impacting bermuda and the canadian maritime over the next five days. as far as the east coast goes, we're actually safe from leslie. the cold front that's heading off the coast will keep this storm off to our east, but it will grow potentially if the category 2 hurricane. it's going to send huge waves to the east coast. it looks like monday will be the closest it will get to cape maine. it could cross through the canadian maritime. it will be in a weakening state but they still have to prepare. the other thing we have to watch for is possible tropical trouble in the gulf. slow development is possible off the louisiana coastline. it's not where we want to see anything that. would be very slow development. so the forecast for today, very hot in texas once again. a few storms around kansas city and missouri and also right through the carolinas and atlanta. that's a look
